Default Lag

I'm really not sure where this should go, as it seems it belongs in tech support, riverside inn and Q & A.

Anyway, I recently set a wireless network and got it working just in time for GWEN. During the weekend I experienced some lag (quite frequently, more than I ever got when wired) but I put it down to the weekend event. Now the weekend has passed but I'm still get the occasional lag spike (about 1000/1500 ping every now and again) which is annoying.

Has anyone else been experience GW lag or is it due to my wireless connection?

Thankyou

Mazey

I am far from a computer whiz. Hell I need help plugging a TV to a cable box.. But I think it has to to with the wireless. I have the same type of problem, playing fine, then a big lag spike (usually convieniently placed at an important part). I use wireless as well, and it seems to cause lag in other games too.

Well, I moved into my dorm a week ago, and ever since then, my ping has been around 4,000 quite often. At one point, it surged at 45,000. I just turned it off. It seemed to really hit harder during the weekend event though.

Yeah i've been experiencing lag like that for my last few months of playing, i think it is down to having a wireless connection, from what i've heard having a wired conection is much more secure for gaming.

Im connected wirelessly and have never had any problems with online playing. I can easily play online fps with no lag, my ping with GW is usualy around the 150-200 mark, quite playable.

If its that high i would wonder if there are others using the connection at the same time as you also your connection ratio, currently my connections ratio is 30:1 which is pretty good in the UK.

If you're getting that high ping then personally i would look at the connection speed in relation to the amount of users using that bandwidth.

If you feel it maybe your wireless card and something interfering then check the singal strengh, you can always chan the wireless frequency and see if that helps.

I've had the same problem lately as well, couldn't be sure if it was down to someone else on the network downloading though. But it's been rather odd, going fine for some amount of time then the ping suddenly spikes into the thousands. At one point I was doing a mission and it actually hit 32,000, which is the highest I've ever seen it. People were wondering what the hell I was doing. It returned to normal just a few minutes after though.

It doesn't have to be your wireless, although I'm sure that doesn't help depending on how many computers are tied to the router you are connecting to. As for lag spikes. I'm on a wired connection and for the past couple weeks or so I'm seeing some odd spikes even in the wee hours of the morning in the US.

It's almost annoying watching my character run all over and my entire party of henchies and heroes basically teleporting in short hops to keep up with me. If the lag spike continues long enough they get quite bored and start yawning and scratching themselves..lol

Unfortunately once that starts it often continues even when the lag spike is over and I've got a nice ping avg of under 200ms until I rezone.

Well, that good news and bad news. I'm hoping it's not a perm problem then. It might just go away in time.

GW AKA Lag Wars has been killing me lately with pings going from 45k to 1.5k and then normal again for about a month now. Sad part is I have a very well taken care of computer as well as enough knowledge with computers to know that it isn't my ISP or my system. I wish they (Anet) would take this issue more seriously and try to figure out what is the problem with the network. Rant over.......

Read this post about latency(lag) issues. Found reason for bad lag & crashes

This applies to anyone running a dual-core processor as guild wars does not support dual-core processors. It explains how to set GW.exe to run on only one of your two cpu cores. First try the temporary method and see if it helps. If it does, then use the permanent method using imagecfg.

Also read the sticky in Technicians Corner called "Bad lag? Try this..."

Also in the topic it states that a recent update has added support for dual core.

Oh, they have added support for Dual Core CPU's? So I guess I should reinstall so that GW.exe will run on both cores?

Where does it state that a patch added dual core compatibility for Guild Wars? There's nothing in the Official update listings about it!

http://www.guildwars.com/support/gameupdates/

Just for the record, these crashes where the game freezes and the sound loops are nothing to do with multi-core CPU's at all. I know people experiencing the exact same thing yet are running single-core CPU's.

It was stated in another lag topic. Besides, I set it to single core affinity and nothing changed, lag, FPS, stayed the same pretty much.

I'd rather go by the Official updates list rather than interweb hearsay though.

Alright, was just throwing in my own bit. As for lag? It's been spiking up to 15,000 today and I even got my first disconnect EVER! Ugh, GW support tells me they did a FULL CHECK of their servers and said it's on MY end, I highly doubt they did anything, but are merely saying that.
